Our knowledge of building design, building systems that have low carbon footprints and about construction of homes using sustainable, renewable and low toxicity materials, is of huge value at every stage of designing you a "Green" home.
The sustainability of your home, and your living environment need to be carefully considered throughout the design and construction process:
Planning and Design
There are significant opportunities to reduce the environmental impacts early in a project’s life by engaging us in the SMART design process.
At the planning and design stage we are able to work with you to enhance designs so that they are sympathetic to the environmental aspects of the building site and consider best positioning for sun and avoidance of prevailing winds. We can also plan to plant and landscape for shade, insulation and privacy.
Using Sustainable Materials
Building material composition and performance can impact very significantly on the sustainability of your home. We can identify and incorporate building materials made of renewable or sustainably managed resources and that are manufactured using “clean” or non-toxic processes.
Appliances and Lighting
We can advise on and specify low energy light fittings, heat pumps, timers and thermostats to optimise heating/cooling efficiency and water heating systems - electric, gas and solar.
Water Conservation
We are also able to design in ways to minimize waste by incorporating grey water irrigation, rain water capture and conservation through the specification of water efficient toilets and showerheads.
At HBD we believe that building sustainably is not only desirable but a responsibility.
